Physh Ed: Bringing Fishing and Boating to Schools
Through a partnership with the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation, the Future Fisherman Foundation is able to offer grant funds through the Physh Ed program to enable physical education teachers to integrate fishing and boating activities into their classrooms.
The purpose of the Physh Ed National Fishing and Boating Education Grants initiative is to enable public, private or charter schools to incorporate quality standards-based fishing and/or boating program activities into their physical education curriculum. The Future Fisherman Foundation invites physical education teachers to apply for these funds to incorporate fishing and boating activities into their classrooms as well as to work collaboratively with other subject areas to integrate fishing and boating activities into the broader school curriculum.
Why Fishing and Boating?
Fishing and boating are enduring traditions enjoyed by tens of millions of Americans, bringing immeasurable value to our way of life. For many, fishing recalls family memories from as far back as we can remember. For today's anglers, getting out on the water is a refreshing escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, a terrific means of staying active, and a wonderful way to rejuvenate.
Fishing and boating are lifelong outdoor pursuits that offer a healthy leisure lifestyle. They are most often shared with people who are important to us, giving us lasting memories of happy times enjoying the great outdoors with friends and family. That's why our organizations are extending our resources, expertise, and array of services to schools across the country.
We advance the most professional, versatile, and effective fishing and boating programs that offer long-term mentoring and conservation education. Schools are in a unique position to introduce young people to these wholesome pastimes and contribute to healthy lifestyles and meaningful relationships that strengthen the fabric of American society.
