The Future Fisherman Foundation and Project Fish recently completed a “Train the Trainers” seminar in conjunction with a Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation grant in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Forty-two future trainers from 5 different states converged on the Michigan State University campus extension in Kalamazoo for what proved to be a very interactive and hands-on demonstration lead by the Project Fish Coordinator, Mark Stephens and his staff.

The group went through a variety of interactive exercises, all designed for the ultimate goal of getting kids involved with fishing. Activities centered on topics like ecology, stewardship, fish handling and care along with fishing skills and lure building during the two-day event. Continue reading

Sept. 12, 2011 – The Future Fisherman Foundation and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission have announced a regional training seminar for all parties interested in aquatic education training. Camp Ocala, located at 18533 NFS 535 Altoona, Fl. 32702 will be the site of this year’s event.

This seminar is open to not only teachers from around the state, but also 4H leaders, Boy/Girls Scout leaders, FFA personnel and a host of others who are interested in getting students involved with aquatic education. Learning the principles of successful programs, such as Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs, will be the focus of this two day seminar. Continue reading

“Sportfishing and Aquatic Resources Education and

an Introduction to HOFNOD,  Hooked On Fishing Not On Drugs” 

Coordinated through Michigan State University’s Department of Community, Agriculture, Recreation and Resource Studies, this workshop is a partnership with MSU Extension-Kalamazoo County, MSU 4-H Youth Development, Department of Natural Resources, The Bass Federation and the Future Fisherman Foundation, and many others to educate young people about our natural resources through FISHING. The Future Fisherman Foundation and The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission recently partnered with several other agencies to conduct a “Train the Trainers” seminar at the Hot Springs Convention Center in conjunction with the FLW Forrest Wood Cup Bass Fishing Tournament.

Sponsored in part through a grant from the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation, attendees from 16 different states attended the seminar, designed specifically for training community and group leaders on how to get involved with aquatic education programs like Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs. The main focus of the seminar was to enable attendees to go back to their communities and train other trainers on the techniques and methods required to be successful with these programs.
